Helping Others and Organizations through Applied Psychology
The BS in Applied Psychology enables students to apply general and comprehensive knowledge of psychology by utilizing in-depth applications and skills in specific areas of the field. The result: innovative professionals who can communicate effectively, think critically, behave ethically and with cultural awareness, and work interpersonally with people from a wide variety of backgrounds.
What makes this program unique?
Oregon Tech’s program provides a strong core curriculum, designed to meet American Psychological Association standards, while highlighting application of knowledge and skills. The core spans the areas of Developmental, Abnormal, Social, Cognitive, and Counseling psychologies, as well as Behavior Modification, Research Methods, and more. As an applied program, both core and elective courses have a skills-based focus, allowing students to identify personal strengths, apply knowledge to real-world situations, create and implement new ideas, and ultimately be prepared to immediately enter the workforce or continue on to graduate programs.
In addition to the core curriculum, students can choose from a diverse offering of electives and focus on one or many areas of psychology. This creates a unique opportunity to build an in-depth and personalized psychology degree. Interested in education? Health? Counseling? Business? Making a difference in your own community? Advisors will help tailor your electives so you gain the experience you need to pursue your career of choice.
An additional two aspects of the BS in Applied Psychology at Oregon Tech make this a program that stands out from other universities. First, the Applied Psychology program also offers Capstone in Applied Psychology (CAP) courses. These CAP courses vary by term and give senior students the opportunity to synthesize knowledge learned throughout the degree program and apply core principles and theories of psychology to a selected topic. Second, through an Applied Experience, students have the opportunity to participate in externships, advanced research courses, and/or community work to prepare themselves for exciting and rewarding careers in psychology or for additional coursework in graduate programs.
