Alumna, Class of 2011

Why did you choose OIT?

I knew that I wanted a double major. OIT offered hands-on learning experiences in both programs I wanted to study.

What do you like most about the Dental Hygiene program?

In addition to seeing patients in the clinic on campus, the dental hygiene program also emphasizes community service. I have enjoyed going out to the community and working with children to promote oral health, it's a nice change of pace from being in the classroom.

What do you like most about the Applied Psychology program?

OIT offers many different psychology classes and you get the opportunity to choose an emphasis in an area that interests you. Other opportunities like externships and student research projects are available as well; experiences like this have helped me apply what I learned in class to outside experiences.

What career do you hope to have after you graduate from OIT?

I would like to use my bachelor's degree in Dental Hygiene to work in public health, and eventually go back to school and get a Ph.D. in psychology and go into private practice as a psychologist.

What's the best thing about OIT?

One of the best things about campus life at OIT is the small class sizes. You get to know your classmates and instructors on a first name basis. Getting involved in clubs and campus activities is an easy way to get to know other students at OIT. It's nice to know that when you head to the library you will almost always find someone there that you already know!

Do you have any advice for new students?

Get involved on campus however you can. Join clubs and study groups and attend campus activities to meet students from other programs! If you need to work while going to college, try to get a job on campus. Working on campus is nice because they always remember that school is your first priority, and it's a great way to meet new people, network and stay involved!
