Why did you choose Oregon Tech?
I originally came to Oregon Tech to take advantage of the accredited renewable energy engineering program. It turned out that engineering wasn't for me after all, so I spoke to Dan Peterson about switching over to communication studies. He was able to utilize all my math and science credits toward my focus sequence electives in my new major, and I am ridiculously happy in this venture!
What do you like most about your major?
I love how flexible the degree is in terms of coursework availability. The classes are fun, applicable, and small. The professors are incredibly approachable, and not only are you learning from experts in the academic field, but they have extensive industry experience as well. But the best part is how devoted the professors are to their students and will do whatever they can to help them succeed.
What would be your dream job in your major?
It's difficult to pin down one thing that I could with this major, since it is so versatile, but that's why I chose it. I love that I have set up my major to ensure that I can do a wide variety of things over the years including mediation, document design (graphic), technical writing, human resources, or organizational communication. I could also move on to graduate school in law, psychology, or even public relations. Right now, I would like to gain a reputation as a mediator by starting in a human resources department of a large corporation, since they tend to handle dispute resolution in-house.
What’s your favorite thing to do off campus?
More than anything, I like to hang out with my two dogs! I enjoy traveling, cooking, spending time with friends, and exploring the basin. I like to meet new people, go on new adventures, and try new recipes, but I also like to stay home and binge watch Hulu!
What’s your most memorable moment within your school career?
I would never be able to pin down just one memorable moment. I love that this school, and my major in particular, provide the perfect environment to make amazing friendships that I know will last a lifetime. The people I have met here are such supportive, wise, fun, and intelligent individuals, and I truly believe that the same kind of experience could not be had at any other university.
