Why did you choose OIT?
OIT has a really good Environmental Science department and the fact that it is small gives you a lot of one-on-one time with your professors. The hands-on aspect prepares you for real world applications.
What's the best thing about OIT?
The closeness you feel with the faculty and fellow students in your department.
What do you like best about your major?
Working outside in the environment that you are learning about in class. The book and lecture knowledge cannot compare to the in-the-field experiences.
What do you hope to do or where would you like to work once you graduate?
After my Master's degree, I hope to work for a federal agency or private company working on restoration projects for riparian areas. I am very interested in plants and their function in water quality.
What clubs or activities are you involved with?
I have been the Treasurer, Vice President, and now the President of the Sustainability Club. I have been involved with Recyclemania and Earth Week on campus. I am also a SMART reader working with 3rd graders.
Do you have any advice for new students?
Make your classes one of your top priorities. However much time you think you need to do homework, add two hours and a do a good job. Don't procrastinate! This is your future and it's all up to you.
