Student, Class of 2017

Why did you choose this program (major)?

I chose this major because I love being out in the community and finding new ways to help.

What are you passionate about changing in this particular field and why?

In this particular field, I am passionate about helping solve the food insecurity problems in Klamath Falls. With this degree, I plan on getting out in the community and helping the local food bank reach as many people as possible to help with the crisis.

Why did you decide to join TOP?

I decided to join TOP because I am a single mom of four children and really need all the support I can get.

Is there anything about Oregon Tech that you wish everyone knew about?

I wish students knew how helpful faculty and staff members are. They genuinely care about their students and will bend over backwards to help.

What is your favorite hobby, and do you have any experiences you would like to share regarding that hobby?

My favorite hobby is spending time with horses. I have been around horses since I was two, and it is one of my passions. People do not really understand how sensitive horses are to people’s emotions. I love going out to the barn even if I am just there to feed. The smell of my horse as well as running my hands down her neck relieves of all my stress.

What fuels you to succeed?

My children fuel me to succeed. I want to show them that anyone can succeed if they just apply themselves. I want them to know there is always a way to overcome obstacles and succeed.

Who is your favorite professor and why? Do you know any interesting facts about that particular professor?

My favorite professor is Stephanie Machado. She has been there for me every step of the way through this program. If I had questions, all I had to do was ask. I think she has gone above and beyond her scope to help out her students.
