Morgan Reid Cole

Student, Class of 2017
Major(s): Radiologic Science

Why did you choose this program?

I chose Radiologic Science because I wanted to work in a field where I could make a difference in peoples’ lives every day. Radiology is a career that is very versatile and allows for expansion in the workplace. Since the beginning on my externship, I have been able to work throughout the hospital and have learned so much. In radiology, I will be able to work in clinical settings, trauma cases, fluoroscopy, and the operating room. Medicine is an amazing profession because learning new things is a daily occurrence.

What are you passionate about changing in this particular field and why?

Medicine is always advancing, and radiology is continually evolving as well. Radiology started with film and darkrooms, but now it has become almost fully digital across the world. Digital machines are much more user friendly and, most of the time, provide better patient comfort. I love to see the advancement of the trade and how digital machines can improve healthcare even more.

There are many options I have with the degree. Within the scope of radiology, I can be certified in MRI, CT, mammography, cardiac catheterization lab, PACS, and quality assurance. I have chosen to rotate through CT and mammography. Once I complete my externship, I will be certified in both modalities.

Why did you decide to join TOP?

I wanted to join TOP because I wanted a group that would hold me accountable and could help me make connections on campus. My counselors were helpful in keeping me aware of my grades, reviewing my papers, and helping with my applications for financial aid.

Is there anything about Oregon Tech that you wish everyone knew about?

It is not only a nerd school! I loved my schooling at Oregon Tech. The professors are all very helpful and truly want you to succeed. In Radiologic Science, the program basically lines you up with a job, and you often graduate with a job offer and a year of job experience. What other school can provide that?

What fuels you to succeed?

My family. I am the first in my family to graduate college, and I am very proud of that accomplishment. My parents are very encouraging and involved in my studies. They push me to succeed, always be my best, and give 100%.

Who is your favorite professor and why?

I have enjoyed all of my programmatic professors. Each one of them brings a specific knowledge to the profession and teaches according to the registry and from personal experience. They make sure that we are fully prepared for the externship by the time we leave and have the knowledge to flourish.
