Are internships, cooperatives or study abroad available? YES! Here at OIT there are a number of opportunities available for students to participate in programs such as those mentioned in this question. Since so many OIT faculty members have worked in industry in the past and continue to maintain those industry relationships today, they are always working on providing new and exciting ways for students to get out into the work place and gain some real world hands on experience while still attending OIT as a student. Each of the departments at OIT have different programs available, so the best thing to do is speak with one of the professors from a department you are interested in and see what type of internships, co-ops or study abroad programs they have been a part of in the past and expect to become involved with in the near future!
Explain the difference between quarter and semester systems. In the quarter system terms are about 2 - months long, where as with a semester system terms are about 3 - + months long. OIT bases its calendar on the quarter system.

Will OIT accept AP or CLEP and if so what are the minimum scores to receive credits? OIT does accept AP credits based upon the score of the students subject exam. Students who complete college-level work in high school under the Advanced Placement (AP) program must achieve a minimum score of three to be granted credit on their OIT transcript.
OIT will award credit for several (CLEP) college-level examination programs. These examinations must be completed with a satisfactory score and an original copy of test results must be forwarded to the Registrars Office from the testing service. In order to receive such credit, the student must be admitted to an OIT degree program and registered for classes during the quarter in which the request is made. A maximum of 25 percent of the credits used toward the degree may be CLEP and AP. OIT awards credit for College-Level Examination Program (CLEP) subject examinations, but not for CLEP general examinations. Information on CLEP course equivalencies and minimum scores may be obtained from the OIT Registrars Office. See an Admissions Counselor or the Registrar for more details.
How many courses are considered a full load? When a student is enrolled in 12 credits or more they are classified as a Full Time student. From my experience as a student I would say that a full load is anywhere from 12-18 credits depending on what the course is etc!
When must an academic major be declared? At OIT you can declare an academic major at any time. However, the sooner you decide the better off you will be because you want to make sure you are taking courses which will apply towards your academic major. This is especially important at OIT because we start into core major classes right from the beginning, not just general requirements.
Does the college offer a tutorial service? Yes, it is called CFLAT. The Center for Learning and Teaching is a multi-purpose facility designed to enrich both learning and teaching at OIT. CFLAT provides tutoring in several academic subjects, academic success classes, accommodations for students with disabilities, test proctoring, a computer laboratory and the campus writing center. A media collection and a video system used in conjunction with academic classes are also housed at the Center. In addition, CFLAT coordinates new student registration for the Klamath Falls campus, as well as new faculty orientation workshops, including the September Institute for New Faculty. It provides ongoing support for faculty to help improve teaching effectiveness and instructional skills.
There is Also TOP. The Tech Opportunities Program is a federally funded (Student Support Services) academic-support program designed to assist highly motivated students who are also low income, first generation or students with disabilities. TOP staff works closely with participating students to comprehensively assess academic and financial needs and to develop personalized plans for college success. Participants may be eligible for a variety of academic-support services, including group and/or individual tutoring and related support; mentoring; help networking with other students; college success workshops and classes; additional academic advising; and limited financial assistance. TOP students also have access to their own computer lab and study area.
