How long does it take to process an application and when will the acceptance letter be mailed?
It depends on how long it takes to get all the paperwork to the Admissions office. Once everything is in it takes from 48 hours to 2 weeks to receive a decision.

Is an application fee required and, if so, how much?

Yes, a non-refundable $50.00 application fee is required.

Is an interview, references or essay required for admission?
There are no interviews, references or essays required. However, if your application goes to review because it is close to, but below the requirements, you may be asked to write an explanation essay.

Must a physical examination be submitted prior to admission?
There is no physical examination, but all students must fill out a Medical Health History form before registration.

Must a prescribed curriculum be completed in high school?
Applicants must complete at least 14 units (4 English, 3 Math, 2 Science, 3 Social Studies, and 2 Second Language), with grades of C- or above. See catalog for details.

Are high school honors courses weighed in favor of the grade point average?
No, we use the unweighted GPA for admission purposes. We always encourage students to complete honors courses.

Will OIT accept the General Education Diploma (GED)?
Yes. Applicants must have certain GED scores (see catalog) to be admitted and if those scores do not meet the standards they may qualify on the basis of a combination of GED and SAT Reasoning or ACT exam results. Oregon Tech requires an average score of 580 on the GED with a score of at least 410 on each subtest. Students who have a GED score of 500 to 570 may still be admitted if they achieve adequate scores on the SAT or ACT test. Contact the Admissions Office for specific information regarding these scores.

Will OIT honor a home study program or diploma from an unaccredited private high school?
OIT is glad to admit students from unaccredited high schools and home school students. The university's official policy is outlined in the next paragraph, but the Admission Committee and the Director of Admissions sometimes make exceptions to these requirements or add stipulations to certain offers of admission.  Contact the Director of Admissions, John Duarte, to discuss your specific situation.  Home-educated students and graduates of unaccredited or non-standard high schools may be admitted by submitting a SAT Reasoning Exam score of 1000 (Math and Critical Reading sections combined) and 470 on the Writing test, or an ACT composite score of 21 or better and an average score of 470 or above (940 total) on two College Board SAT Subject Tests (Math level I or IIC and another test of the students choice). An examination in a second language is strongly recommended to qualify the applicant for admission by meeting the language proficiency requirements. Students who do not take an SAT Subject test in a second language must prove language proficiency through another approved process.

How will OIT evaluate or use two or more sets of SAT/ACT scores?
We will use the better of the two scores!

Does OIT offer an Early Admissions Program (EAP)?
Oregon Tech follows a "rolling admission" policy, which means we generally make admission decisions within a few days after your application file is completed.  Students are encouraged to apply early and to have all admission materials submitted no later than the end of January.

Is there a waiting list for admission?
When it comes to university admission, the answer is "no." However, several programs -- Medical Imaging, Dental Hygiene, Clinical Lab Science, Respiratory Care and Paramedic Education -- have an additional, separate admission process and in some cases these majors may have a waiting list for admission.

Is admission open for freshmen and transfers at any quarter?
Yes.

Does OIT offer a Joint Enrollment Program?
Oregon Tech currently has a dual enrollment program with Portland Community College, Tillamook Bay Community College and Columbia Gorge Community College. We also have a close working relationship with Klamath Community College and dual enrollment programs are under development with several other schools.

Does OIT offer remedial or development studies?
Only on a very limited basis: We offer several math classes that are designed to prepare students for College Algebra.
