Learn More about Your Financial Aid during Your OIT Visit

Concerned about money for college?  When you make an appointment to visit OIT's Klamath Falls campus, we almost always can arrange for you to meet with a financial aid counselor and if youll do just a little bit of homework before you get here, well do our best to give you some idea of what you can expect with regard to costs, grants, scholarships and loans.  Heres your homework assignment:

Option 1:  The EFC Calculator

(Quicker, Easier, Less Precise, Good Enough for an Estimate)

  • Fill out the calculator questionnaire as accurately as possible using the “Federal Methodology” for need analysis
  • When you have finished filling in the questionnaire, click “calculate”
  • The EFC Calculator will produce an estimate of your Expected Family Contribution. Make a note of this EFC figure and bring it with you to your campus visit
Option 2: The FAFSA4caster

(Longer, More Detailed, More Accurate,Can Help with Completing the “Real” FAFSA)

  • Fill out the FAFSA4caster as accurately as possible
  • When you have finished filling in the questionnaire, you will receive an electronic response that includes the phrase, “Your estimated EFC is,” followed by a number
  • Make a note of this EFC figure and bring it with you to your campus visit
It is okay to use estimates on these questionnaires but if your answers are relatively precise, OIT can give you more accurate calculations regarding your expected financial aid.  If you have questions as you fill out these online forms, you may call OITs Financial Aid Office at 1-800-422-2017, x. 2, or 541-885-1280 on weekdays from 8:00 AM to 5:00 PM to get help.

Thinking about college costs can be a scary thing but we want to remove as much uncertainty as possible.   By bringing your EFC to your meeting with a financial aid counselor, youll enable us to give you a much better idea of what your financial situation will be at OIT.
