A GRANDE, Ore. – Oregon Tech’s Dylan Rogers and Ethan Schlecht were named to the All-NAIA West Group Team, while Owl outfielder Jared Neslon earned Gold Glove honors, announced Saturday by the league office.
Rogers earned all-league recognition as an infielder, while Schlecht received all-league accolades for his play at third base for the Owls during the season. Nelson roamed centerfield, appearing in all 56 games for Tech, and making several spectacular plays during the course of the 2013 season.
Individual awards went to Menlo's Jimmy Bosco as Player of the Year; British Columbia's Bryan Pawlina received Pitcher of the Year honors, while Menlo’s Stefan McGovern was named Coach of the Year.
Rogers, a left handed junior for the Owls, led Tech with a .366 batting average and slugging percentage (.524). The 6-2 first baseman also led the team with 83 hits, 52 RBI, 37 runs and homeruns (6). Schlecht, a freshman from Ashland, Ore. batted .283 in 40 starts, including 39 hits and nine doubles. Nelson, in his last year for the Owls, had 179 put outs with three assists. It appeared that in every game Nelson made at least one run-saving defensive play for Tech. Nelson posted a .984 fielding percentage, batted .259 and swiped seven bases in eight attempts.

PORTLAND, Ore. – Both Oregon Tech and Corban University combined for just nine hits in today’s elimination game of the NAIA West baseball tournament, but it is the Warriors who will move on and the Owls season comes to an end after a 3-0 loss at Porter Park on the campus of Concordia University in Portland.
Alex Reynolds notched two hits for the Owls in 3-0 loss to Corban |
Corban plated single runs in the first, fifth and seventh innings as Warrior hurler Jamie McCaffrey tossed a complete-game shutout to help CU advance to play University of British Columbia at 3 p.m. later today.
Oregon Tech (20-36) looked to rally in each of the fourth, fifth and sixth innings, but just like game 1 on Wednesday, were unable to come up with a big hit.
Oregon Tech went down in order in their first three at-bats, before Alex Reynolds led off the fourth inning with a single. Reynolds would advance to second on a sacrifice bunt with a walk putting Tech runners at first and second with one out. Reynolds, however, was picked off while a line out ended any Tech threat.
Ryan Hayden reached on a single in the fifth inning but would be caught stealing trying to get in scoring position ending the inning.
Reynolds, gaining his second hit of the contest, singled with two outs in the sixth inning, but again the inning ended on a fly out.
Down to their last at-bat, Jared Nelson led off the ninth frame with a single to right field and advanced to second on a ground out. However, the game would end after a fly out and ground out sealed the CU win.
Tech starting pitcher Talon Sisley tossed 6 1/3 innings allowing just five hits, while Raf Belloc threw the final 1 2/3 innings giving up no hits in his relief work.
Alex Reynolds was the only Owl with two hits with Ryan Hayden and Jared Nelson recording Tech’s only other hits in the game.
