Oregon Tech Wins Three in Day 2 of SOU Invite

MEDFORD, Ore. – Oregon Tech completed a three-game sweep in day 2 of Saturday’s Southern Oregon Invite with wins over Simpson University, 2-1, Holy Names University, 6-2 and University of British Columbia, 7-3, as the ninth-ranked Owls cruise out to a 14-1 overall mark on the season.

In the 2-1 win over Simpson, Jess Plummer and Sara Coates drove in Tech’s only runs. Shauna Collins led off the game with a single with Coates following with a RBI double. Plummer led off the fourth inning with a leadoff homerun that would prove to be the game-winner, as the Owls took today’s opener with a 2-1 win over Cal Pac member Simpson University. Taylor Schmidt moved to 7-0 after striking out seven and striking out six Redhawk batters.
In game 2, Coates would drive in three runs followed by a two RBI output by Collins. Rylee Carleton allowed just four hits and struck out six as the Owls pushed their overall mark to 13-1.
The Owls would push across two runs in the third inning and four in the fourth to go up 6-0 in the game. HNU scored single runs in the fourth and seventh innings.
Tech swept the day after a 7-3 win over UBC. The Owls opened with a two-run first inning followed by three runs in the third to go up 5-0. The Thunderbirds answered with three runs in the fourth inning. Tech pushed across a pair of runs in the sixth inning to win by the 7-3 margin.
Alyssa Davis, Taylor Schmidt and Melissa Logan recorded two hits each, with Logan driving in three runs and Schmidt and Coates adding a RBI each. Schmidt improved to 8-0 in the circle after the win over UBC.
