Owls Series Ends in Tie - Game 2
10.26.2012
The Black squad won game 2 of the Owls Series 7-2 to knot up the best of seven series at one game apiece. The Thursday afternoon matchup pitted transfer, junior, right-handed pitchers, BJ Wilson (Willamina, OR) versus Talon Sisley (Covington, WA) for the black team.
The scoring started in the 5th inning as the Black squad hit back to back doubles by Tyler Conklin (Jr, Newport, OR) and Kyle Seutter (Jr, Klamath Falls) which plated a run. In the bottom half of the 5th the Gold team answered back with a run of their own as a two out single by Spencer Reed (Jr, Spring Valley, CA) scored Dylan Rogers (Jr, Las Vegas, NV) who earlier doubled to lead off the inning. A long drive to left by Derek Gummersall (Jr, Pocatello, ID) was caught by Marty Shanks (Jr, Reno, NV) on a nice catch as he crashed into the wall for the final out of the inning and preserved the 1-1 tie.
The Black team jumped ahead for good in the sixth as Shanks stroked a one out double which was followed by a run scoring single by Ryan Hayden (Jr, Grants Pass, OR). Hayden then scored on a 2 out double by Aaron Bocchi (Jr, Klamath Falls) before Wilson could get out of the inning.
The Gold team would cut the deficit by a run in the bottom of the 7th as Spencer Reed added his second RBI of the game by doubling in Dylan Rogers. Neither team managed any offense in the 8th, setting up a 3-2 Black team lead heading into the ninth.
The Black team’s bats came alive in the top of the 9th as Ryan Hayden opened the frame with a solo homer over the leftfield fence and after a walk and a Tyler Conklin double, Kyle Seutter launched a three run homerun to extend the lead to 7-2.
Talon Sisley finished off the Gold squad without incident in the bottom half of the inning to pick up the complete game victory by only allowing 4 hits and 2 runs.
