Head Coach

Head Coach Jack Kegg

Jack Kegg enters his second year as head cross country and track and field coach at Oregon Tech.

Most recently, Kegg served three years as part-time assistant coach at Eastern Oregon University before being promoted to a full-time assistant in 2009 for the Mountaineers. 

At EOU, Kegg coached athletes who currently hold 23 Mountaineer school-records between indoor and outdoor track and field.  Kegg has also coached athletes who have earned 13 NAIA All-American honors along with 60 NAIA national qualifiers.

Kegg was also a very successful coach in Oregon at the junior college ranks, spending 10 years as the head track coach at Clackamas Community College where he distinguished himself as one of the elite coaches in the Northwest.

On three separate occasions Kegg was named NWAACC Southern Region Coach of the Year, while also earning the NWAACC Coach of the Year award on the women's side in 2000.  During his tenure at Clackamas, Kegg developed 288 JC All-Americans, 63 conference champions, 36 school-record holders, four national junior college record holders and nine US National or Olympic Trial Qualifiers.

In 2001 Kegg was invited to coach at the Olympic Training Center during the Elite Decathlon Camp, was a past President of USA Track and Field in Oregon and is currently working with the NAIA Indoor Games Committee.

Jack graduated from Western Oregon University with a B.S in Mathematics while also beginning his college coaching career at WOU as a graduate assistant in 1994.  Jack and his wife, Laura, are the parents of Nora, currently a sophomore on the track and field team at EOU, and son’s Connor (15) and Eli (19).

Assistant Coach

Assistant Coach Laura Schwartz

Laura Schwartz is in her second season as a volunteer assistant coach for cross country and track and field at Oregon Tech, and brings over twenty three years of track and cross country coaching experience.

Most recently, Schwartz served four years as part-time volunteer assistant coach at Eastern Oregon University and was the head coach at La Grande High School in both cross country and track & field from 2008-2010 after assisting those programs the two previous years. At LHS, Schwartz coached Greater Oregon League Team Championships in cross country: 2008 & 2009, and in track & field 2009 - 2010.

Schwartz was also a volunteer assistant coach for cross country, and track and field, at Clackamas Community College, from 2003-04 where she helped in the distance and multi events.

Coach Schwartz spent eighteen years as a USATF youth coach in Las Vegas and in Portland. Schwartz has coached 45 USATF Individual All-Americans in cross country and track & field, including a USATF Cross Country National Championship team, Midget Girls in 2001. Schwartz was also named USATF-Oregon Coach of the Year 2002 and had the USATF-Oregon Team of the Year 2003.

Laura graduated from Western Oregon University with a Master in Education.  Laura and her husband, Jack, are the parents of Nora, currently a sophomore on the track and field team at EOU, and son’s Connor (15) and Eli (19). Laura’s daughter, Debra lives in Portland, and her son, William, currently serves in the US Navy as a medic.
