Oregon Tech Falls to Southern Oregon in OT

ASHLAND, Ore. – Oregon Tech held a 3 point lead with 2.3 seconds to play, but Melissa Sweat banked in a 3-pointer from the corner to tie the game in regulation and then the Raiders outscored the Owls 8-6 in the extra period to move on to an 82-80 win tonight at Bob Riehm Arena in Ashland.
Oregon Tech falls to 16-8 overall and 9-5 in the conference standings. The Overtime win for SOU improved their overall mark to 18-8 and is even in the CCC at 7-7.
Back-and-forth throughout, SOU held a pair of six point leads, their largest of the first period, and led 19-13 with 8:10 on the clock.
Tech’s Nicole Aboumrad tied the game 21-21 on a 3-pointer with 5:56 remaining, while a Karly LeVeque layup pushed Tech to a 23-21 advantage. SOU would eventually tie the game with 16 seconds as the teams went to intermission locked up at 31-31.
The Owls moved up by as many as six points in the second half and nearing the midway point led 49-43. SOU eventually tied the game at 58-58 and took a lead on a free throw.
Another pair of six point leads for Tech ensued, the last at 72-66 with 2:35 to play. Tech, leading 72-71, and with the ball and under 10 seconds to play, were sent to the free throw line where Colleen Hunt converted on a pair of freebies to lead 74-71.
SOU moved the ball down court and with 2.6 seconds put the ball in play at half court. Melissa Sweat got open in the corner and banked in a desperation 3-pointer as time expired to tie the game at 74-74.
In the overtime period the game remained tied at 77-77 with 1:36 to play, before SOU went up five points, 82-77, on a Sweat triple and OIT turnover that turned into a Raider layup. Tech managed to cut their deficit to 82-80 on a Karissa Dixon 3-pointer, but with only .1 seconds remaining the game was all but over. SOU inbounded the ball and the buzzer sounded as Tech fell by the same 82-80 score.
Karissa Dixon finished with a team-high 21 points to go with 8 rebounds and 3 assists. Nicole Aboumrad went for 16 points, including a 4-for-7 effort from the 3-point line, while Kassi Conditt recorded a double-double with 13 points and 12 rebounds and Maria Ramirez added 12 points, 8 rebounds and 5 assists.
