No. 9 Oregon Tech Sweeps Northwest

(KLAMATH FALLS, Ore.) – Oregon Tech’s Taylor Schmidt picked up her 13th and 14th wins of the season in the circle and the Hustlin’ Owl offense hit 6-home runs to sweep a Cascade Conference double header from Northwest University Saturday afternoon 7-0, and 11-3 at the Oregon Tech Softball Complex.
Oregon Tech improves to 23-6 on the season and 7-1 in CCC play with the wins. Northwest falls to 2-18 and 0-8 in CCC play.
In game 1, Oregon Tech’s Taylor Schmidt had 9 strikeouts as she got the complete game shut-out, allowing just 3-hits and 1-walk.
Oregon Tech scored 2-runs in each the 1st, 3rd, and 5th innings and added a 1-run in the 6th to win going away 7-0.
Shauna Collins led the Oregon Tech offense with 3-hits, with Jess Plummer, Alyssa Davis, and Melissa Logan all adding 2-hits in the game. McKenzie Shrum and Logan each hit their 3rd home runs of the season with Plummer adding her 10th long ball as well.
Hannah Ganfield led the Eagles offense with 2-hits.
In game 2, Northwest took an early 2-0 lead in the top of the 2nd inning, taking advantage of 3-walks and a Ganfield bases loaded double.
Oregon Tech would answer putting together 3-hits to make it a 2-1 game after 2 innings.
After Northwest had a leadoff triple from Holly Entus, Oregon Tech starting pitcher Rylee Carleton struck out the next 2 Eagle hitters then induced a ground ball out to get out of the inning and end the threat.
Oregon Tech would take the lead in the 3rd inning scoring 5-runs, highlighted by homeruns from Sara Coates and Melissa Logan to take a 6-2 lead.
Northwest would add a run in 4th inning on a Vanessa Ahrendt homerun to make it a 6-3 game.
Tech’s Taylor Schmidt would enter the game and after loading the bases, would get a ground out to get out of the inning unscathed.
Oregon Tech would add 2-runs in the 4th highlighted by a Alyssa Davis double to take a 8-3 lead.
The Owls would add 2 more runs in the 5th on a Kaitlyn Anderson 2-run homerun to lead 10-3. After Schmidt pitched a 1,2,3 top of the 6th, Oregon Tech would end the game in the bottom of the inning on an error and back to back singles by Elise Goodell and Jess Plummer, winning by mercy rule 11-3.
Oregon Tech will travel to No. 17-ranked Corban University (17-5, 7-1 CCC) next Friday in Salem, Oregon.
