Tech Drops Pair of NAIA West Contests to C of I, 13-5 & 5-2

CALDWELL, Idaho – Oregon Tech remained winless in NAIA West action, as the Owls dropped a doubleheader today at Wolfe Field to host College of Idaho, 13-5 and 5-2.

Game 1 – College of Idaho used a five-run third inning to extend on their 3-1 lead, as Oregon Tech fell in today’s opener by a 13-5 final.

After trailing 3-0, Oregon Tech scored their first run in the third. Spencer Reed led off with a double and scored on an Aaron Bocchi ground out. C of I would tally five more in the third to go up 8-1.

The Owls would answer with three runs in their at-bat in the fourth inning to cut their deficit in half. Colton Minton walked and would later score on an Alex Antonaras ground out. Tyson Dahl capped the Owls’ scoring on a two run homerun to make it an 8-4 contest.

Tech would add a run in the eighth inning, but C of I scored a pair in inning seven and tacked on three more in the eighth for the final 13-5 margin.

Tyson Dahl finished 3-for-5 in the opener, including a double and homerun with two RBI. Reed added a pair of hits with Bocchi, Ethan Schelcht and Antonaras driving in a run each.

Game 2 – Oregon was unable to get to C of I pitching until the last inning, falling by a 5-2 final in the nightcap.

Trailing 5-0 in the ninth, after C of I plated a pair of runs in the fourth and three in the seventh, Tyson Dahl connected on a two-run blast in the ninth, accounting for Tech’s two runs as the Owls never got closer.

BJ Wilson scattered six hits in his 6.1 innings, allowing three runs. Ryan Hayden was the only Owl with two hits, with Dahl adding the only extra base hit and RBI’s in the game. Bocchi recorded his second hit of the day with Colton Minton and Ryan Grant adding singles.

Oregon Tech falls to 5-17 overall and 0-4 in NAIA West action. Tech will next host Simpson University this Saturday and Sunday at Kiger Stadium with game times scheduled for 12 p.m. and 11 a.m.
