No. 22 Owls Sweep No. 15 College of Idaho
KLAMATH FALLS, Ore. – In a matchup of top 25 teams, it was No. 22 Oregon Tech (13-5, 6-0 CCC) sweeping No. 15 College of Idaho (12-6, 4-2 CCC), 3-2 in 8 innings in game 1, and 5-2 in game 2 in Cascade Conference play at the OIT Softball Complex on Friday afternoon.

In game 1, College of Idaho scored in the top of the 2nd inning manufacturing 2-runs on 2-hits, getting a sacrifice fly and a sacrifice bunt to take the early 2-0 lead. Tech would cut the lead to 2-1 on back-to-back doubles from Danielle Sayers and Shauna Collins.

Both starters then settled down and College of Idaho would take a 2-1 lead into the bottom of the 7th inning; that’s when Oregon Tech managed to get runners on 1st and 2nd base after a walk and a hit batter. Then with two outs, the Lady Owls got the big hit it had been looking for all game as Tori Weatherford hit a seeing eye single threw the right side of the infield that scored Sayers from 2nd base and tied the game at 2-2.

In the top of the 8th Inning, College of Idaho looked to take the lead back as Oregon Tech committed two errors to put runners on 1st and 2nd base with only one out. That’s when the Hustlin’ Owls defense got its third double play of the game, a line drive to OIT 2nd baseman Alyssa Davis who then stepped on the bag at second to end the threat.

The game then ended quickly in the bottom of the 8th inning. Davis singled to lead off the inning and then Tasha Silvius doubled to left centerfield on the first pitch she saw, scoring Davis from first base as Tech won 3-2 in a walk-off fashion.

The game was a great pitchers’ duel between the Yotes Nickayla Skinner and Oregon Tech’s Cassidy Olson. Skinner picked up the loss, falling to 7-3 on the season. She struck out 10 Owls while allowing 3-runs all earned on 8-hits. Tech’s Olson picked up the win, going 8 innings allowing just 2-runs (both earned) spreading out 6-hits to improve to 6-3 on the season.

In game 2, Oregon Tech got home runs from Tori Weatherford (4) and Tre Sullivan (2) as Jessi Duncan picked up her 5th straight win in the circle as the Hustlin Owls finished the sweep winning 5-2.

Tech was 1st on the board in the bottom of the 1st on Tori Weatherford’s 4th home run of the season, a no-doubter to deep left field. Tech added 3-runs on 4-hits including 3-doubles to take a 4-0 lead after two innings. Tre Sullivan led off the bottom of the 4th inning with her 2nd home run of the season, giving OIT a 5-0 lead.

C of I would answer in the top of the 5th inning. After Nickayla Skinner picked up her 3rd hit of the day, McKensie Stanton hit a 2-run home run to left field to make it a 5-2 game. The two runs scored by the Yotes were the first runs Tech Starter Jessi Duncan had given up in 5-starts.

Duncan picked up her 6th win of the season against only 2 losses as she spread out 5-hits while striking out 4.

Shauna Collins and Tre Sullivan led the OIT offensive attack with 2-hits each.

Oregon Tech will host Eastern Oregon on Saturday with College of Idaho playing in Ashland, Ore. against Southern Oregon. Both doubleheaders are scheduled for 11:00 am starts.
