Oregon Tech Men 5th, Women 6th in CCC Cross Country Preseason Poll

LA GRANDE, Ore. – After a 4th and 5th place showing, respectively, at last year’s Cascade Collegiate Conference cross country championships, the Oregon Tech men are picked 5th, heading into the 2014 campaign, while the women were chosen 6th in the CCC Preseason Coaches’ Poll, announced today by the conference office.

Both Oregon Tech men and women top-runners, Paul Adams (Jr., Klamath Falls, Ore.) and Mary Matchett (Sr., Klamath Falls, Ore.), along with several newcomers on both sides for the Owls, will look to move up the poll when the season kicks off on August 30th in Klamath Falls in a dual meet with CCC member Northwest Christian University at Steen Sports Park beginning at 10 a.m.

After receiving all nine first place votes, and 81 points, the Southern Oregon men were chosen to finish in the top spot and look for a seventh-straight CCC title.

Eastern Oregon, the last conference school not in Ashland to win the conference title, has been selected second with 69 points.  Concordia is picked third with 56 points, followed by College of Idaho with 51 points.  Oregon Tech was just three points back in fifth with 48 points while Northwest Christian in sixth with 45 points.  Corban, Northwest and Warner Pacific close out the poll.

Northwest Christian University earned 80 of 81 possible points, including eight first-place votes, to enter the season as the clear favorite on the women’s side, followed by Southern Oregon with 65 points.  Defending CCC champion College of Idaho earned the final first place vote and sit third in the poll with 57 points.

Concordia, who will host the 2014 championship, has been predicted to finish in fourth place with 54 points with Corban fifth in the poll with 46 points and Oregon Tech sixth coming in with 39 points.  Northwest, Eastern Oregon and Warner Pacific follow in order.

The 2014 Cascade Conference Cross Country Championship is set for Nov. 8 at Fernhill Park in Portland, Ore.  The 2014 NAIA National Championships will be contested on Nov. 22 at Rim Rock Farms in Lawrence, Kan.
