Lady Owls Win at Home Over Geoducks

Klamath Falls, Ore. -
The Oregon Tech Lady Owls jumped out to a 12 point first half lead and never looked back in their 65 to 40 victory over the Evergreen State College Geoducks. The Owls pick up their third CCC win to move to 3-1 in conference play, while the Geoducks move to 2-3 in the conference after a tough road weekend in the southern region of Oregon.

The Hustlin’ Owls of Oregon Tech hosted the Geoducks of the Evergreen State College in the second CCC matchup of the weekend at Danny Miles court. The Lady Owls entered today’s game with an overall record of 9-4 and 2-1 in CCC play, coming off of a strong win over Northwest University. The Lady Geoducks are sitting with an overall record of 3-7 and 2-2 in the CCC, coming off a road loss against SOU.

Off the tip, the Owls controlled the ball and looked to find senior guard, Ashleigh Vandenbrink for an open 3-pointer. Both teams would struggle to find an offensive rhythm in the first quarter, as the first 10:00 minutes of play ended with both teams in single digit scoring at 9-8 in favor of the Lady Owls.

The second quarter saw a more determined Owls, as they came out firing, putting up 8 points in the first 2:00 minutes. Sophomore guard, Megan Morris, had 1 steal and 4 points during this run, energizing her team. Both the Owls and Geoducks would exchange baskets for the remainder of the quarter, with the 8 point run from the Owls being the main difference between the teams. The half would come to a close with the Owls hitting on their last two shots to extend their lead to 12 points, with the score 31-19 at the break.

The second half saw the Owls putting the Geoducks under pressure right away, coming out of the break in a full court press. With the press on, the Owls would extend their lead to 20 points, going on a 11 to 3 scoring run. The quarter would end with the Owls extending their lead to 26 points, with the score at 53-27 heading into the final quarter of play.

The fourth quarter would see the Owls maintain their lead, as the Geoducks were unable narrow the deficit. The game concluded with a final score of 65-40, making the weekend a home sweep for Tech, now 3-1 in CCC play and 10-4 overall, while the Geoducks move to 2-3 in CCC play and 3-8 on the season.

The Lady Owls will take a break for the holiday and look to resume CCC play with a road trip to Portland on the last weekend of 2016 to take on Warner Pacific College and Multnomah University.
