No. 3 Owls Fly Past Geoducks 91-62

OLYMPIA, Wash. – The Oregon Tech Hustlin’ Owls hit 13 three-pointers as the third-ranked team in the country soared past the Evergreen Geoducks, 91-62, in a Cascade Conference men’s basketball game on Saturday night at CRC Gymnasium in Olympia, Wash.

For the first two minutes, the Geoducks (1-17, 0-9 CCC) played with one of the top teams in the country by the Owls (19-2, 8-1 CCC) quickly took control, building a nine-point lead with 14:22 to go in the opening half and pushing the lead into double-digits with over 11 minutes still to play before the break. Oregon Tech’s biggest lead in the first half would turn out to be 23 as they took a 49-26 lead into the halftime break.

It was much of the same in the second half as the Owls used a deep bench to shoot past the short-handed Geoducks, who suited just seven players for the game. The Oregon Tech lead hit 30 with 16:21 left to play on a lay-up by David Clarke and the teams would play about even pace for the remainder of the game as OIT picked up the 91-62 win to wrap up the first half of conference play.

Evergreen was led by 21 points from senior Patrick Lewis (Bremerton, Wash./Olympic College), who also added eight rebounds and four steals in the loss. Elzie Dickens (Seattle, Wash./Highline CC) added 14 points and six rebounds off the bench while Larry Green (Seattle, Wash./Grays Harbor CC) chipped in 13 for the Geoducks.

Oregon Tech was led by 23 points from freshman Bobby Hunter. Scott Riddle scored 13 for the Owls while Clarke and Alex Zerbach finished with 11 points each. The Owls shot 59.4% from the field on the night, including 48.1% from behind the arc, making 13 of 27 three-point attempts.
