Oregon Tech Signs Volleyball Duo

KLAMATH FALLS, Ore. – Oregon Tech head volleyball coach Jason Corwin announced recently that a pair of players have signed Letters of Intent and will join the Owls beginning this fall. The duo includes Madisen Garlie of May, Idaho (pictured bottom) and Renee Baumann of Weston, Ore. (pictured top).

Garlie, a 6-1 middle blocker competing at Challis High School, was a three-time First-Team All-State and first-team Snake River All-Conference selection. Garlie tallied 1344 kills and 582 blocks at the varsity level, leading her team to four-straight district championships as well as an undefeated season in 2012 that culminated in an Idaho State Championship. The senior led the Lady Vikings to an overall 88-6 record including an undefeated record at home during her high school career.

“Madisen is a proven competitor with a heavy arm and big vertical,” said Corwin. “She has a ton of ability that we are excited to see in action as a Hustlin’ Owl.

Madisen is the daughter of Todd and Carmen Garlie and plans to major in civil engineering at Oregon Tech this fall.

Baumann, a Weston-McEwen High School graduate, and sister of current Hustlin’ Owl libero Marie Baumann, spent two seasons at Walla Walla Community College before transferring to Oregon Tech.

At WMHS Baumann tallied 966 kills, 453 aces and a school-record 1,433 digs in a four-year career, while leading the TigerScots to a 30-2 overall mark and 14-0 league record her senior season. Additionally, Baumann was named the Blue Mountain Conference Player of the Year, First-Team All-State and OSAA 2A Player of the Year after leading WMHS to the 2010 State Championship.

At Walla Walla Community College Baumann helped the Warriors to a 3^rd place finish at the 2012 NWAACC Tournament, including a 30-11 overall mark and 11-3 league record this past year. Career totals at WWCC include 404 kills, 860 digs and 46 aces.

“We are excited to have Renee in our program for the next two years,” Corwin said. “She has a huge vertical, a very powerful arm and will bring us great quickness on the defensive end.”

Renee is the daughter of Robert and Kathleen Baumann and plans on majoring in biology at Oregon Tech this fall.
