KANSAS CITY, Mo. – For the first time since January 12th 2009 the Hustlin’ Owls own the top spot in the sixth edition of the 2011 – 12 NAIA Division II Men’s Basketball Coaches’ Top 25 Poll, announced Monday by the national office. Oregon Tech earned 338 total points and 7 of the possible 13 first-place votes. Oregon Tech has the most wins of any team in NAIA D II with a record of 21-2. This also marks the first time in Oregon Tech history that 2 teams are ranked No. 1 in the nation at the same time as the Oregon Tech women’s softball team is also currently ranked 1st in the nation.

Northwood (Fla.), this week’s No. 2 team, was knocked off the perch after suffering a 78-72 loss at unranked Embry-Riddle (Fla.) on Jan. 19. After Oregon Tech was defeated 85-75 against then-No.17 Warner Pacific (Ore.) on Dec. 29, the Hustlin’ Owls have won seven-straight games. Included in that stretch were wins over two Top-25 teams. Oregon Tech will have a rematch against Warner Pacific on the road this Saturday in Portland, Oregon as the Owls play at Concordia University (12-9, 4-6 CCC) on Friday night and at No. 8 Warner Pacific (17-4, 9-1 CCC) on Saturday night. Oregon Tech was last ranked No. 1 back on Jan. 12, 2009, which marked the fifth-straight week for the Hustlin’ Owls.

Two other Cascade Collegiate teams are ranked in the top-25, including Warner Pacific coming in at No. 8, and Northwest University (18-2, 8-2 CCC) at No. 11. Southern Oregon University (14-8, 7-4 CCC) and Eastern Oregon University also received votes in this week’s poll.
