Owls Fall Twice to Vanguard
01.30.2010

Costa Mesa, Cal. – After opening the 2010 baseball campaign with a 7-5 win yesterday, the Oregon Tech baseball team dropped a doubleheader to Vanguard University by scores of 11-4 and 5-2 today as the Hustlin’ Owls drop to 1-2 on the season.
Kory Locken finished 2-for-4 in game 1, while Colin Stock drove in two runs and Ryson Mauricio added an RBI in the game 1 loss. The Owls did not help matters, stranding 12 base runners in the opener. Vanguard U. jumped out to a 3-0 lead, but the Owls would plate four runs in the top half of the fourth to take their first lead of the day. It was all VU after that, as the Lions added four runs in both the fifth and eighth innings to move on to the 11-4 win in game 1.
Tech took an early 1-0 lead in game 2, but a three run fourth inning for the home team would be all the Lions would need. Tech would add another single run in the sixth, but VU answered with two of their own in the bottom half, while holding the Owls scoreless for the remainder to take the final game by a 5-2 final.
Ryson Maurcio was 2-for-3 with and RBI in game 2, while Cory Spires finished 1-for-1 and drove in the Owls other run of the game. Dylan Bedortha was the pitcher of record, giving up five earned runs in 5.1 innings of work.
The Owls wrap up their five-game road trip with a doubleheader versus Cal State San Marcos beginning at 11:00 am tomorrow.
