(KLAMATH FALLS, Ore.) – Senior Matt Bellando has been named opening day starting pitcher when the Hustlin' Owls open the 2011 campaign at eighth-ranked Point Loma Nazarene University this Saturday at 11 a.m. Bellando picked up seven wins last season, including 58 strikeouts and a 4.31 ERA.  Senior Shea Bedortha was 5-2 for Tech last season with 40 strikeouts and a 4.65 ERA, and will take the mound in game 2 versus PLNU.

The remaining weekend’s rotation will have Neil Emerson starting game 1 of Sunday’s DH versus La Sierra University, while incoming freshman, Taylor Bars, will throw game 2. Emerson, redshirting last season, set numerous freshman pitching records in 2009 for the Owls, including innings pitched (80.2), games started (13), wins (6), ERA (3.01), and strikeouts (59). Emerson was named the 2009 Cascade Conference Newcomer of the Year.

Dylan Bedortha, another key returnee on the mound, had three wins and 36 strikeouts in 2010 and will have the pitching duties in the single nine inning game versus No.15 Fresno Pacific University on Monday.

Infielders Zack Earle and Colin Stock, along with the outfield duo of Trent Smith and Kory Locken are the four returning players that are keys to Tech’s success in 2011. Smith enters his senior year in reach of the all-time career base hits and runs scored records at Oregon Tech.  Locken, a Gold Glove award winner, batted .317 in 2010 and has been the stolen base leader in the region in both of his first two years at Tech. Senior Colin Stock led the Owls with a .370 average, which included seven homeruns and 46 RBI, while junior Zack Earle batted .295 and will begin his third season at shortstop where he has played all 115 games the last 2 seasons.

Oregon Tech plays their first 23 games on the road before opening up their home campaign with a doubleheader at Kiger Stadium against Simpson University on March 19th and 20th
