FRESNO, Calif. – Oregon Tech starting pitcher Dylan Bedortha gave up just one earned run against No. 15 ranked Fresno Pacific University, but the Owls could only manufacture one run on the day, losing today’s single nine inning contest by a 2-1 final.

The Owls (yesterday) edged La Sierra University in Sunday’s opener, and then exploded for 17 runs in the nightcap to pick up their first two wins of the 2011 season, 3-2 and 17-4.  Oregon Tech is 2-3 on the year and will visit Westmont College for three games next week.

Oregon Tech fell behind 2-0 after the Sunbirds plated single runs in the first and second innings.  A Trent Smith single in the fourth, followed by a single by Colin Stock, put runners on the corners for the Owls.  Ryan Hayden then plated OIT’s first run on a sac fly to right that closed it to 2-1 Fresno Pacific.

Oregon Tech’s best opportunity to take a lead came in the fifth inning after Dylan Rogers led off with a double, followed by a walk to Matt Bellando.  A passed ball advanced the runners to 2nd and 3rd with no outs.  The Owls, however, could not capitalize, as Rogers was tagged out at home on a fielder’s choice, while a double play ended the inning with Tech still trailing 2-1.

FPU pitching only allowed one base runner over the next four innings, a Kyle Conner two out single in the top of the 8th inning, as Oregon Tech fell by a 2-1 final.

Dylan Bedortha (0-1) gave up just four hits in 6 2/3 innings, while fanning four and allowing two runs – one earned.  Darryl Swearingen went 1 1/3 innings of relief work allowing one base hit.
