02.08.2012
FRESNO, Calif. - Fresno Pacific starter Josh Medeles threw five innings of one-hit ball as the Sunbirds built up an 8-0 lead before going on to win 8-5 over visiting Oregon Tech on Wednesday night.
The No. 17 ranked FPU Sunbirds (5-2) got on the board in the third with a double down the right-field line, followed by back-to-back RBI singles to go up 2-0.
FPU added six runs in the fourth, knocking Owl starter Aaron Jorgensen out of the game, to lead 8-0 after batting all the way around in the inning.
Oregon Tech would finally get on the board with a single run in the seventh inning, while adding four more in the eighth. After trailing 8-1, the Owls would load the bases in the eighth after FPU pitching allowed three-straight walks. Dylan Rogers stepped to the plate and doubled to drive in three runs, cutting the deficit in half. Later in the inning Alex Reynolds drove in Tech’s final run before a ground ball out would end the inning with Tech trailing by three.
After Kory Locken singled to start the ninth inning, a ground ball turned in to a double play, while a fly out ended the game with Tech taking the loss, 8-5.
Oregon Tech will take on Madonna, Mich. Thursday morning and then face NCAA Division II opponent Cal State Dominguez Hills on Friday at noon in the first game of a doubleheader.
