No. 1 Oregon Tech Softball Downs Holy Names 4-1 to Open up 2012 Season

Redding, CA -- Sara Coates hit a pair of homeruns and Jess Plummer hit a solo shot, as No. 1 Oregon Tech opened up the 2012 softball season with a 4-1 win over Holy Names Friday morning in the first game of the 3rd annual Simpson Field of Dreams Tournament.

Taylor Schmidt went the distance for Oregon Tech, pitching all 7 innings, allowing just one run on five hits while striking out five.

In game 2, Oregon Tech scored a 2-1 win over University of British Columbia in extra innings.  Morgan Barnes pitched eight strong inning, allowing just two hits, while also driving in the game winning run on a RBI single.

In the final game of day 1, Oregon Tech moved to 3-0  after defeating Menlo College by a 3-2 final.  Melissa Logan picked up the win for the Owls allowing seven hits and two runs.  Janelle Cromie hit a solo homerun in the fifth inning and drove in the game-winner in the sixth, while Shauna Collins had an RBI single in the third inning to account for Tech’s three runs.
