2010 Softball Campaign Opens with Six Games in Redding

02.11.2010

KLAMATH FALLS, Ore. – The 2010 Oregon Tech softball team is hoping for some mild weather when the Owls open the 2010 campaign in Redding, Cal. on February 12th and 13th

In arguably the toughest start to an Oregon Tech softball schedule, the Owls will face three Golden State Athletic Conference powers to begin the season.  The Owls open up with defending NAIA national champion Cal Baptist, followed by Biola University and perennial top-5 Point Loma Nazarene in back-to-back games.  Tech closes out the weekend versus Menlo College and tournament host Simpson University.

Oregon Tech’s 54-game spring schedule includes 14 home contests, beginning with conference doubleheaders versus College of Idaho and Eastern Oregon University on March 19th and 20th.

The 2009 softball team finished the season with their sixth consecutive winning season, as the Owls went 21-20 overall and finished 4th in the conference standings at 11-13.

Tech will look to replace six seniors/starters and could have as many as five freshmen starting this year. Oregon Tech was picked fourth in the Cascade Conference preseason coaches poll, but expect the Owls to fight for a conference championship in 2010 after adding two talented pitchers to the mix, including all-conference Shasta Junior College transfer Mikey Eustance and Oregon’s 6A Player of the Year, Taylor Schmidt.
