COSTA MESA, Calif. – Oregon Tech fell to 2-5 overall after Vanguard University swept today’s twinbill 5-0 and 2-1 in non-conference baseball action today in Costa Mesa.

Kory Locken finished the day with three hits, including a pair of singles in game 1.  Ryan Hayden and Tommy Wood accounted for the other two Tech hits, both singles, in the opener, as Vanguard’s Jimmy Bromberg threw a complete game four-hit shutout.

Game two was more of the same, as the Owls struggled to find any offensive power.  Tech’s Zack Earle went 6.1 innings, allowing just five hits and one earned while striking out six in his second-straight fine effort on the hill for Tech.  Locken added his third hit of the day in game 2, while Alex Reynolds and Zack Earle each singled.

Oregon Tech’s Ryan Hayden drove in Kory Locken, who earlier singled, to tie the game 1-1 in the third inning.  That would be all that VU hurler Scott Simmons would allow, shutting out Tech for the remainder of the game.

Vanguard would strike in the seventh inning when a leadoff double proved to be the game winner.  VU would come up with back-to-back singles, scoring the winning run and sweeping today’s contest.  Simmons gave up just three hits in a complete game effort.

Oregon Tech will head back to California this week and face Westmont College of Santa Barbara in a pair of doubleheaders, along with a twinbill at La Sierra University in Riverside.
