ASHLAND, Ore. – Tenth-ranked Oregon Tech used a 13-1 run midway through the second period to down rival Southern Oregon University 68-58 tonight at Riehm Arena in Ashland.

The victory gives OIT at least a share of their third-straight Cascade Collegiate Conference regular season crown.

Oregon Tech moves to 24-4 on the season and 14-2 in CCC action with the win, while the loss drops Southern to 14-13 overall and 6-10 in the conference standings.

Oregon Tech’s Kyle Gomez came away with a double-double 14 point and 14 rebound effort to lead the Owls in the victory.   Joseph Foster and Bryant Sentman also added 14 points, while Brent Johnson netted 12 points and Mihajlo Matic finished with 11 points.

Points were difficult to come by as Oregon Tech managed just a four point lead, 12-8, nearing the midway point of the first period.

An 11-1 run by the visiting Owls pushed the advantage to 14 points, as OIT would take a double-digit lead to half 37-27.

Southern Oregon used a 16-8 run out of the gates to pull to within one possession, 45-43, but Oregon Tech’s Joseph Foster answered with a jumper on OIT’s next time down court, while a Bryant Sentman triple capped a 9-0 Owl run to give OIT a 56-43 advantage with 8:30 on the clock.

Southern Oregon had one last push as the Raiders pulled to within five points, 60-55, with just under four minutes remaining, but Oregon Tech would never let it get closer, winning by a 68-58 final.

Oregon Tech (24-4, 14-2 CCC) hosts Concordia University on Friday and concludes Cascade Conference regular season action on Saturday versus Warner Pacific College. Oregon Tech’s postseason opponent is yet to be determined, but the Owls will host the quarterfinals of the 2011 CCC tournament on Wednesday, February 23rd.  All postseason play begins at 7 p.m.
