SANTA BARBARA, Calif. – Oregon Tech managed a split with Westmont College today at Russ Carr Field in Santa Barbara taking game 1 by a 3-2 score, while the Warriors took the nightcap 5-1. Oregon Tech is now 3-5 on the year.
Oregon Tech jumped up 3-0 after four innings with a two run third-inning and a single run in the fourth. A Ryan Hayden walk pushed Trent Smith across, who doubled with one out, for the games first run. Dylan Rogers put the Owls up 2-0 after a fielders choice sent Zack Earle to the plate, who earlier reached on a single, to cap the scoring in inning three.
The Owls looked to take control in the fourth-inning after loading the bases with no outs. A passed ball scored Matt Bellando from third, but Westmont retired the next three Owls in order to keep things close.
Westmont pushed across two runs in the bottom half, as Oregon Tech would cling to a 3-2 lead after four.
Dylan Bedortha (1-1) shut down Westmont in the fifth and sixth, while Neil Emerson allowed just one hit and no runs over the next two innings as the Owls led 3-2 into the bottom of the ninth. After allowing a lead off single in the ninth, Zack O’ Hanen picked up the save for OIT after retiring the next three Warriors in order.
Tech trailed 1-0 in game 2, but would tie the game at 1-1 in the fourth. Tech’s Kyle Conner doubled with one out and advanced to third on a fielder’s choice. Trent Smith singled to drive in Conner for Tech’s only run of the game.
The home team added two runs in the bottom half of the fourth and two more in the fifth to move on for the 5-1 win.
