Oregon Tech up to No. 8 in the Nation

02.14.2011

(KANSAS CITY, Mo.) –The Oregon Tech men’s basketball Team moved up two spots to No. 8 in the ninth regular-season edition of the NAIA Division II Men’s Basketball Coaches’ Top 25 poll, the NAIA announced Monday.

No. 8 Oregon Tech (24-4, 14-2 CCC) and No. 2 Walsh own the Division II active streak for longest run in the Top-25 at 73 straight weeks - the last time either was not ranked was Jan. 11, 2005.

Eastern Oregon (21-5, 12-4 CCC) moved up one positions to No. 13, while Northwest University (19-6, 11-5 CCC) dropped from No.15 to No. 18. Warner Pacific College debuted at the No. 22 position this week as the Knights have won 10 of 11 games.

Northwood (Fla.) becomes the new No. 1 as they have a 17-game winning streak. Since the 1991-92 season when NAIA basketball split into two divisions, the Seahawks hold the top ranking for the first time in school history. The slide up to No. 1 was made possible after previously top-ranked and undefeated Walsh (Ohio) lost to unranked Roberts Wesleyan (N.Y.), 72-63 on Feb. 12.

Oregon Tech will take a 52-game home win streak into their next conference match ups this Friday and Saturday when the Owls host Concordia University and No. 22 Warner Pacific. The games can be heard live on 92.5 KLAD-FM beginning at 7:00pm with The Danny Miles Coaches Show with Mike Garrard and Bobby Thompson. Friday night will be Hawaiian night with a halftime “Hula” performance by the Oregon Tech Hawaiian club. Saturday will be senior night as Oregon Tech will honor seniors Jana Parker, Brittany Cherry, Brent Johnson, Matt Smith and Joseph Foster.
