Lady Owls Improve to 7-1 with Saturday Sweep

(PORTLAND, Ore.) -- Oregon Tech exploded for seven runs in the bottom of the sixth inning Saturday to come from behind and post an 8-5 victory over Pacific University and complete the first day of action at the Northwest Cup with a 2-0 record. With the two wins Oregon Tech improves to 7-1 on the season.
In Saturday's first game, the Lady Owls held off a late-game Simpson rally, scored five times in the eighth inning and posted a 9-5 victory in a game in which Jess Plummer and Melissa Logan each hit home runs.
Ashley Sfetku hit two doubles and singled for Oregon Tech in the opener. Logan and Kaitlin Anderson both had two hits in the win.
Plummer came back to hit a home run and double to drive in three runs for Tech in the game 2 win over Pacific, while Shauna Collins and McKenzie Shrum both added two hits. Winning pitcher Taylor Schmidt also had a double.
Schmidt picked up the victory in the first game, too, and pushed her season record to 4-0. Rylee Carleton had a save in the win over Simpson, and Logan, pitching for the first time this season, gained a save in the second game.
The Lady Owls will return to action at Hood River Park against Willamette University at 1 p.m. Sunday, and will follow that with a game against the University of Puget Sound at 3 p.m.
