Owls Earn Pair of Wins at NW Cup

CLACKAMAS, Ore. - Bree Larson connected for a two run shot in the sixth inning to help give Oregon Tech a 3-2 come-from-behind win over Whitworth University in game 1, while the Owls pounded out 14 hits, including three more homeruns in the nightcap, to take down U. British Columbia 14-2 in day 1 of the Northwest Cup on Friday.
Jackie Imhof (2-1) scattered five hits in the opener to pick up the win, while Taylor Schmidt recorded her first victory of the season with a two-hitter in the closing game.
Down 2-1 in the sixth inning, Tech’s Janelle Cromie reached on a single, while Larson provided heroics with a two out blast to left field to give the Owls the lead. Imhof and the Tech defense held WU scoreless in the seventh to gain the win.
Ashleigh Larson, Jess Plummer and Bree Larson each hit homeruns in the nightcap as the Owls routed UBC 14-2. Schmidt (1-1) went six innings, while Ali Edwards pitched a scoreless seventh for Tech.
Oregon Tech did most their damage in the last inning. Leading 7-2 over UBC, OIT tallied seven runs with two outs in 14-2 victory.
Ashleigh Larson finished 4-for-5 at the plate and drove in four runs in game 2. Jess Plummer added three hits and three RBI, while Kayde Schaefer drove in two runs and Andria Wheatley came away with a pair of hits.
Oregon Tech moves to 3-2 on the season with the wins and faces Lewis and Clark College and Pacific University in a pair of games Saturday.
