Owls Sweep Northwest Cup Day 1 Games

02.20.2010

Clackamas, Ore. – Oregon Tech defeated Lewis & Clark College in game 1 and University of British Columbia in game 2 in the opening day of the Northwest Cup. The Owls have now won three in a row and improve to 4-4 on the season.

After a 0-0 start to the opener, Oregon Tech would give pitcher Mikey Eustance all the run support she would need in the fifth inning of game 1.  A Jess Plummer homerun put Tech up 1-0 and a Kayde Schaefer RBI single later in the inning would give the Owls a 2-0 lead.  The Pioneers would add a single run in the bottom half of the fifth to cut the deficit in half.  The Owl would go on to plate three more in the seventh to move ahead 5-1, and after a scoreless bottom half would win by the same score.

Sara Coates added another homerun for Tech and along with a double finished the opener with two extra base hits.   Schaefer also finished with two hits and two RBI in the win, while Eustance picked up her first win in an Owl uniform.

Oregon Tech found them down 1-0 in the nightcap, but would plate three runs to move to a 3-1 advantage and never trail again, winning by an 8-5 final.

Becca Anderson moved to 1-1 on the season, while Taylor Schmidt finished with three hits and four RBI, including a homerun in the nightcap.

The Owls will face NCAA III University of Puget Sound and Pacific University tomorrow with game 1 beginning at 9:00 am and game 2 at 1:00 pm.
