02.23.2010
LA GRANDE, Ore. – The Oregon Tech Lady Owls put together a great effort in the first round of the Cascade Collegiate Conference quarterfinal round versus Eastern Oregon University, but it was not enough as the season came to an end after falling to the Mountaineers by a 67-56 final.
Five-seeded Oregon Tech and four-seeded Eastern kept things close for much of the night, but Eastern Oregon outlasted the Owls after answering with several runs after the Owls got within striking distance.
OIT jumped on top early and held its largest lead of the game just six minutes in at 9-4. The Eastern Oregon offense then clicked and went on a 10-0 run over the next three minutes.
The Lady Owls (15-16) cut the deficit to one point, 16-15, with just over six minutes left in the first half. The Mountaineers then strung together seven-straight points to take a 23-15 lead. Eastern would go up by as many as 10 points with a minute before the half, but an OIT 5-0 run left the Owls down only 28-23 at intermission.
Oregon Tech got as close as two points midway through the second half, 44-42, but an Eastern Oregon 7-0 run gave the Mountaineers some breathing room. Oregon Tech battled to then end, but could not overcome and EOU 11 point lead, falling 67-56 and ending the 2009-10 season.
Brittany Cherry (No. 25 Pictured above) finished with a team-high 14 points to go with seven rebounds and six assists. Senior guard Kelsey New added 11 points for the Lady Owls. Aundrea Albright came away with a team-high nine boards and chipped in six points.
