Plummer Grand Slam Gives Owls Split
02.27.2010
MEDFORD, Ore. – The Oregon Tech softball team picked up a split on the last day of the Southern Oregon softball tournament, as the Owls finished the three day, six-game tournament with a 3-3 record. The Owls fell to Biola by a 4-3 final in today’s opener but bounced back to win the nightcap over Hope International by a score of 10-1. The game was called after five innings due to the 8-run rule.
Biola rallied from a 3-2 deficit in the 6th inning to win the opener by a 4-3 score. The Owls had two outs with no Biola runners on, but back-to-back singles and a liner in the gap would prove costly. Oregon Tech went away silently in the 7th and dropped the opener by the one run margin.
A Jess Plummer grand slam, her second in as many days, gave Oregon Tech all the run support they would need in game 2, as the Owls jumped ahead 4-1 after the 1st inning against Hope International. Brittany Cherry, fresh off the hardwood for the Lady Owl basketball team, kicked started a six run 4th inning with her first homerun of the year, as the Owls moved on to a 10-1 advantage. The Tech defense held steady and after a scoreless 5th inning the Owls would win the shortened contest by the 8-run rule, 10-1.
