Owls Open 2011 Track and Field Campaign in Chico

CHICO, Calif. — Several members of the Oregon Tech men’s and women’s track & field teams competed in their first of ten meets on Saturday at the Wildcat Relays in Chico.  OIT’s Emily Nehring won the long jump event with a distance of 18-05.75, while Kevin Ellingson tied for first in the men’s pole vault with a 14-0 effort.  Breanna Burns followed Nehring with a second place effort in the long jump with a distance of 18-05. 

The women’s 4x800 team of Statia Smith, Jessica Bath, Katie Waugh and Amanda McMillan finished second in 9:54.23, while the 4x100 team of Nehring, Sharon Johnson, Breanna Burns and Tracy Filley also finished second (53.79).  Four women finished in the top 8 of the javelin, led by a second place effort from Alyssa McMillan with a throw of 11-02.  Johnson added a second place finish in the high jump coming in at 5-03.25.

For the men, Trae Collins took home third in the shot put (42-06) and a fourth in the discus with a throw of 128-05.  Third place efforts also went to Brian Keebler in the javelin (169-05), while Derek Larman went 21-10.75 in the long jump and 42-00.50 in the triple jump for the Owls. On the distance side, Scott Minor and Jed Tolbert finished fourth and fifth in the 3,000 meters with times of 9:02.13 and 9:02.46 respectively.

Both the Oregon Tech men and women will return to Chico for the multi events held on March 3rd and 4th.
