No. 8 Oregon Tech to play Cardinal Stritch in First Round

Kansas City, MO (March 2, 2011) --- The official bracket for the 2011 NAIA Division II Men’s Basketball National Championship was released Wednesday afternoon at 7:00 p.m. CST. The NAIA tournaments eighth-seed, Oregon Tech, will play in first round action on Wednesday, March 9, at 9:45p.m. CST (7:45 p.m. PST) against the Wolves of Cardinal Stritch University (Wisconsin). The tournament will be held in Point Lookout, Missouri at Keeter Gymnasium on the campus of College of the Ozarks March 9-15.
Cardinal Stritch (Wis.), competing in the Chicagoland Conference, enters the NAIA National Tournament with a 21-12 overall mark. The Wolves received the automatic bid to the NAIA Division II National Tournament by winning the Chicagoland Tournament Championship. Cardinal Stritch currently has a nine-game winning streak. This is the ninth time that Cardinal Stritch has made the NAIA Division II National Tournament they have a record of 4-7.
Oregon Tech (29-4) is ranked No. 8 in the final 2011 NAIA Division II poll heading into the national tournament and was ranked in the top-20 throughout the entire season. Cardinal Stritch received votes in the top-25 NAIA poll on five occasions, climbing as high as No. 26 in the last poll of the season.
The Hustlin’ Owls have won two NAIA Division II National Championships in both 2004 and in 2008. The Hustlin' Owls, making their 13th appearance, and ninth-consecutive, have the second most wins at the NAIA Division II Tournament (27-10), trailing Northwestern (Iowa) with 28 wins, and have never lost in first-round action.
The Cascade Conference will send four teams to this year’s national tournament. No. 10 seed Eastern Oregon (25-6) plays Cedarville (Ohio) (20-12) on Thursday at 7:30 pm CST, unseeded Northwest (21-8) will play 13-seeded and defending National Champion Saint Francis (Ind.) (24-9), on Wednesday at 12:00 pm CST and unseeded Warner Pacific (19-10) plays 11-seed Northwestern (Iowa) (22-8) on Thursday at 1:45pm CST.
All Oregon Tech games will be broadcast on 92.5 KLAD-FM.
