Filley 5th, Burns 8th at Wildcat Multi Event

CHICO, Calif. - Chico States Kelly Clancey won two of the three Friday Heptathlon events, running her overall string of first place finishes to five and racking up 4,690 points – 290 more than she needed to notch the NCAA provisional bid.
Oregon Tech had two athletes competing in the Wildcat Multi’s, with Tracy Filley taking fifth and Breanna Burns remaining in eighth after the two day event. After a foul in the long jump event, Filley took home no points, dropping her from fourth on day 1 to fifth overall after the competition.
Filley won the javelin (513 points) with a distance of 115-0 and finished seventh in the 800 meter run (3:00.6s), adding 360 for a total of 2943. Burns finished with 2793 total points after picking up 403 in the long jump (4th place – 4.4m), 449 points in the javelin (5th place - 93-08) and 366 in the 800 meter run (7th place) in 2:59.9s.

Two Owls in Top 8 After Day 1 of Chico Multi Event
CHICO – Tracy Filley and Breanna Burns, competing in the heptathlon for Oregon Tech, remain in the top 8 after day 1. Chico State’s Kelly Clancey earned an NCAA provisional bid in the Heptathlon at the Chico Multi– Clancey won three of the four Heptathlon events staged at the 2011 edition of the Multi and holds a comfortable lead on the field heading into Friday’s final day of competition.
Filley sits in fourth with 2010 points after a pair of third and sixth place finishes. Filley gained the bulk of her points after high jumping 4-10.5 and throwing the shot 29-09.5. Burns’ top finish was a 28.27s timing in the 200 meter, gathering 610 of her 1575 total on the day. .
The Chico Multi concludes Friday with events beginning at 10am. The long jump, javelin and 800-meter dash will round out the Heptathlon events.
