Oregon Tech Drops Two to Menlo, Late game to be Played Monday
03.06.2011
ATHERTON, Calif. - Menlo pitcher Sean Sweeney finished up game 2 from Saturday, and then went eight innings in game 1 of today’s doubleheader as the hurler picked up two wins over Oregon Tech on the day. Sunday’s nightcap will now be played on Monday due to darkness.
Both teams came to the ballpark this morning with unfinished business to take care of after darkness halted Saturday’s extra inning game with the score deadlocked at six. The Oaks called on starting pitcher Sean Sweeney to begin the continuation as play resumed in the top of the 10th. Both teams went scoreless, as the teams headed into the bottom of the 12th still tied at six.
The bottom of the 12th began with a leadoff single, and after a two out base hit and ensuing walk, Menlo had loaded the bases. The game would then end after a 3-2 count was lined to left to give the Oaks their second straight walk-off win.
Sweeney then started the following game as the sophomore went eight strong, allowing just one run on five Oregon Tech hits while walking one and striking out four in the Oaks' 5-1 victory.
Oregon Tech falls to 5-12 overall and 0-3 in NAIA West action. The Oaks improved to 9-7 on season and 3-4 in NAIA West play. Oregon Tech will look to pick up their first win in league play tomorrow at Carton Field beginning at 11:00am.
