Oregon Tech takes an 18-5 overall mark to La Grande as the Owls (2-0 CCC) take on Eastern Oregon University in a conference doubleheader scheduled to begin at 11 a.m.

Game 1 - Oregon Tech plated three runs in their first at-bat, while C of I added single runs in their half of the first and second innings to make it a 3-2 in today’s CCC opener.  Schmidt wouldn’t allow another run over the next five innings while Jess Plummer connected on her eighth homerun of the season, a two-run shot in the fifth inning, as Tech won game 1 by a 5-2 score.

Shauna Collins opened the game with a leadoff single with Alyssa Davis reaching on a C of I error.  After a sac bunt moved the runners up one, Jess Plummer walked to load the bases.

C of I recorded the next two outs, but Tech’s McKenzie Shrum singled to drive in one run, while Ashley Sfetku followed with a two-run double to give the Owls a 3-0 advantage.

With the score 3-2 in favor of the Owls, Plummer launched a one out two-run homerun in the fifth inning to push OIT’s lead to 5-2.  The game would end by the same score.

Taylor Schmidt tossed a complete-game, allowing six hits and one earned run to move to 10-1 on the season for the Owls.  Schmidt struck out three in the victory.  Davis and Plummer had two hits each with Plummer driving in two.  Sfetku recorded two RBI and Shrum one in game 1.

Game 2 – Scoreless through the first four innings of play, Oregon Tech pushed across three runs in the top of the fifth inning.

Melissa Logan led off with a double eventually scoring on a C of I error.  Alyssa Davis drove in a pair of runs on a single to make it 3-0.

Rylee Carleton, after a shaking start, allowed just one hit through the first five innings, as the Owls took the same 3-0 lead into the last inning.

Into the seventh inning, a one out single by Shrum was followed by a two-run homerun off the bat of Shauna Collins as Tech led 5-0 with C of I taking their last at bat.  The homerun proved to be the game-winner after C of I rallied in their last at-bat.

In the seventh C of I took advantage of Tech’s only error as the Yotes loaded the bases on a single, walk and error.  An ensuing single scored two, while a double pushed across two more and made it 5-4.  A passed ball by relief pitcher Taylor Schmidt moved the C of I base runner to third base with no outs.  Schmidt, however, showed why she was the 2012 Pitcher of the Year after forcing a pop up, a ground out and closed the game with a strikeout as the Owls earned the sweep.

Collins and Davis recorded two RBI each, while Shrum and Sara Coates added a pair of hits each.

Schmidt picked up her first save of the season with Carleton moving to 8-4 in the circle with the win.
