Oregon Tech Opens Conference Action with Sweep at Concordia

PORTLAND, Ore. – Oregon Tech used three homeruns in the opener, while Taylor Schmidt threw a complete game shutout in game 2 to open up Cascade Conference softball action with a sweep over fourth-ranked Concordia University today at Delta Park.

The doubleheader between OIT and CU was originally scheduled to be played in Klamath Falls last Friday but was moved because of poor field conditions at the OIT Softball Complex. The reschedule will put Concordia at Oregon Tech on Saturday, April 9^th.

Jackie Imhof moved to 7-2 overall after giving up just three hits, while recording six strikeouts in game 1. A Shauna Collins two run blast in the second-inning proved to be the game-winner, giving the Owls a 3-0 lead. Tech second baseman Ashleigh Larson recorded a three-run homerun in the fourth inning, while Janelle Cromie followed up in the fifth inning with a three-run shot of her own to give OIT a 10-2 lead. The game concluded after five innings due to the 8-run rule.

Oregon Tech scored all three runs in the first two innings of game 2, while Schmidt allowed just three hits and no runs, as the Owls took the nightcap 3-0. Schmidt moved to 9-2 overall with the win, while also picking up a pair of hits in game 1.

Cromie added two more RBI in game 2 after connecting on a two out bases loaded single in the first inning, giving the Owls an early 2-0 lead. Andria Wheatley answered in the second-inning with another two out RBI single that pushed OIT out to a 3-0 lead. Schmidt shut down the CU bats, as the Owls secured the sweep by the same score.

Oregon Tech versus Southern Oregon Twinbill Postponed

Oregon Tech was originally schedule to host rival Southern Oregon University tomorrow, Tuesday, March 21^st, but because SOU and Concordia switched venues, and will be playing in Portland on Tuesday, the Oregon Tech and SOU twinbill has been postponed to a date to be determined.
