Simpson Gains Sweep over Oregon Tech in NAIA West Play

KLAMATH FALLS, Ore. – Simpson University held on to a pair of 5-1 leads to take today's NAIA West baseball doubleheader over Oregon Tech by scores of 5-4 and 10-7.
Oregon Tech falls to 12-20 overall and 2-8 in NAIA West action. Simpson improved to 9-17 on the season and 7-5 in league play.
Oregon Tech managed just four hits in the opener, all singles from Trent Smith, Kory Locken, Kyle Hansen and Zack Earle. Matt Bellando, appearing in the opening two innings for the Owls on the mound, fell to 3-5 on the season in the game 1 loss.
Rico Adams was the only Red Hawk with two hits in the opener, while Josh Corson, Garrett Barnett and Matt Alton each doubled. Brad Hern picked up his second win for the Red Hawks, while Adrian DeMar recorded the save.
In Game 2, Locken, Colin Stock and Zack Earle had two hits each with Locken recording a double and Stock and Earle a homerun each. Wade Elliot doubled in his only plate appearance.
Simpson pounded out 20 hits in the nightcap with Angel Marti leading the way with three hits, including a homerun. Dustin Stoddard picked up the win for the Red Hawks, while DeMar took the mound again in the late innings of game 2 to earn his fourth save of the season.
Oregon Tech travels to Salem for a four-game non-conference series this weekend versus D3 Willamette Univeristy.
