SALEM, Ore. – Oregon Tech managed just a single run in both games of today’s non-conference baseball doubleheader as the Owls fell to Willamette University 6-1 and 3-1 this afternoon in Salem.
Oregon Tech falls to 12-22 on the year and will conclude a four-game series with the Bearcats tomorrow beginning at 11 a.m.
Oregon Tech’s Brad Walters, last week’s Cascade Conference Player of the Week, added to his numbers, as the junior infielder belted his fourth home run of the season in the top of the second-inning. The homerun gave Oregon Tech an early 1-0 lead, but that would account for the only run OIT would record in the game.
WU starting pitcher Blake Paisley went eight complete innings in the opener, allowing seven hits and one run, while striking out four batters with no walks.
Ryan Hayden was 2-for-4 for the Owls, including a triple, while Colin Stock and Tommy Wood added doubles in the loss.
WU starting pitcher Brandon Simon went five complete innings in game 2, allowing just four hits, one run, while striking out four batters and giving up two walks. He improved to 5-2. Reliever Kyle Kirwan pitched the final two innings and had two strikeouts while earning his first save.
Oregon Tech game 2 starter, Craig Kathol, fell to 0-1 on the season for OIT after giving up just five hits, while striking out seven and walking two in his six innings on the mound.
Ryan Hayden continued his hot streak with a 3-for-3 effort at the plate, including a single, double and a homerun. Colin Stock doubled, while Trent Smith added a single in the game.
