Tech’s Jorgensen wins 1500 at Chico State Twilight

Freshman Kevin Jorgensen won the 1500 meter seeded event this past weekend at the Chico State Twilight.

CHICO – The Oregon Tech track and field team turned in several good performances over the weekend, with Kevin Jorgensen taking top honors in the 1500 meter race, highlighting the Chico State Twilights this past Friday and Saturday.

Jorgensen nearly eclipsed the four minute mark, crossing the tape in 4:00.72 in the 1500 seeded event, while  Jed Tolbert finished his 1500 meter run in 4:08.54 to take home a third place finish.  The men’s 4x100 relay team of Ryan Howard, Joel Phillips, Kyle Gomez and Rey Chavolla timed in at 43.26s, good for third place, while Bryant Sentman settled for fourth place in the 110 hurdles with a time of 15.78 seconds.

Kassi Conditt went nearly a foot farther than last week, taking home another second place in the shot put with a throw of 40-10.5, while the women’s two relay teams took away third place finishes.  The 4x100 team of Sharon Johnson, Emilee Nehring, LaShell Larman and Tracy Filley crossed in 51.49, while the 4x400 squad of Larman, Nehring, Katie Waugh and Statia Smith timed in at 4:11.08. 

In the 800 meter race, Tech’s Amanda McMillan place third with a 2:30.06 finish, while James Hull and Joey Gipner finished 5-6 for the men with times of 2:02.18 and 2:02.22 respectively.

Athletes competing in multi events are in Portland at the Mt. Hood Multi’s beginning Monday and concluding on Tuesday.

Oregon Tech will host their only home event of the year on Saturday, April 23rd at John F. Moehl Stadium on the campus of Oregon Institute of Technology beginning with field events at 10 a.m.
