Owls Drop Two at Southern Oregon

ASHLAND, Ore. – Southern Oregon scored three unanswered runs to take game 1 by a 3-2 score, and eventually secured Cascade Conference sweep with a 3-1 win in the nightcap.
Oregon Tech scored their only runs in the third inning to take a 2-0 lead in the opening game. Brittany Cherry led off with a single, while Shauna Collins followed with another base hit. A sacrifice bunt from Andria Wheatley moved the runners up, while Ashleigh Larson drove a ball back up the middle to put Tech up 2-0.
Southern answered with single runs in the fourth and sixth innings, while a walk-off single in the seventh ended the game at 3-2.
Tech finished with five hits in the opening game, including two singles by Cherry, while Jess Plummer doubled for the Owls’ only extra base hit. Jackie Imhof struck out six and walked one as she fell to 13-4 overall.
SOU jumped out to a 3-0 lead in game 2 with a single run in the third inning, along with two in the fourth.
Oregon Tech finally pushed a run across after Bree Larson reached on a single in the sixth inning. Elise Goodell followed with a single, while a SOU error helped Larson reach the plate to make it 3-1.
The Owls looked to rally in the seventh after Taylor Schmidt led off the inning with a single. With one out, Kayde Schaefer singled and moved over Danielle Sayres, who pinch ran for Schmidt. A ground ball to the right side moved both runners to second and third with two out, however, a strikeout would end the game, as the Owls fell 3-1.
No. 17 Oregon Tech fell to 27-8 overall and 13-3 in the CCC standings and will close out their regular-season conference home schedule with doubleheaders this Friday and Saturday versus Eastern Oregon and College of Idaho.
