Oregon Tech Ends Regular-Season with Split at Northwest Christian

EUGENE, Ore. – After shutting out Northwest Christian in the first game 5-0, NCU battled back in the final Cascade Conference regular-season softball game of the year to earn a 9-6 victory over Oregon Tech in the nightcap.
Jackie Imhof threw a complete-game five-hitter and registered the shutout for the Owls in game one, striking out ten batters. Brittany Cherry continued her torrid hitting after a 3-for-3 effort at the plate, while Ashleigh Larson hit her 14th home run of the season.
In game two, the Owls jumped out to a 3-0 lead in the top of the first inning, two runs coming in on a triple by Cherry. The Beacons would respond in the second inning as eleven batters came to the plate. NCU would finish the inning with six runs on seven hits.
Oregon Tech added four runs of their own in the top of the third to tie the game, 6-6.
The Beacons put the game away in the bottom of the fourth inning with three more runs, as OIT failed to score over the final three innings. NCU’s Brooke Davis held Tech scoreless in the seventh inning to earn the save.
Shauna Collins finished 3-for-3 at the plate in game 2, while Cherry added two more hits and three RBI in the nightcap. Andria Wheatley recorded two hits and a RBI, while Bree Larson drove in two runs on two hits.
With a sweep on Friday over Corban, the Owls already clinched the Cascade Collegiate Conference regular season title and will host the 2011 CCC Championship tournament. The CCC Tournament, played on May 6th and 7th at the Softball Complex on the campus of Oregon Institute of Technology in Klamath Falls, will feature the top three finishers in the CCC's regular season with the winner earning the conference's automatic bid to the NAIA Championships slated for May 19-25 in Gulf Shores, Ala.
