Tech Splits with Concordia

(Klamath Falls, Ore.) – On Senior Day, Oregon Tech Senior Tommy Wood singled in the game winner in the bottom of the 9th to lift the Hustlin’ Owls to an 8-7 win and a double-header split with Concordia University Sunday afternoon at Kiger Stadium. Oregon Tech concludes the 2012 season at 18-33 and 11-21 in conference play. Concordia falls to 23-26 and 15-17 in conference play and will host the NAIA West Tournament May 2nd thru the 4th in Portland, Ore.
In game 1, Concordia used 15-hits to score 14-runs on the way to a 14-2 win. Concordia scored 8-runs in the 6th inning and added 5 more runs in the 8th led by Jordan Keeker and Sean Myrom who had 3-hits apiece.
Three Cavalier pitchers combined to limit Oregon Tech to 2-runs, spreading out 10-hits with Eric Weir picking up the win to improve to 4-6 on the year.
Concordia also turned 4 double plays to end several Oregon Tech opportunities.
Ryan Hayden and Dustin Norman had 2-hits each for the Hustlin’ Owls.
In game 2, Concordia scored 2-runs in 3rd inning taking advantage of a hit batter and 2 doubles.
Oregon Tech answered, scoring 2-runs in the bottom of the inning on 4-hits including 2-doubles.
Tech then took the lead, scoring 3-runs in the 5th inning on 3 walks and 2-hits to take the lead 5-2.
Sean Myrom led off the 6th with a deep homerun to left field and then scored on a walk and 2-wild pitches to make it a 5-4 game.
Oregon Tech scored 2 more times in the bottom of the 6th on a walk and 3-hits to go up 7-4.
Concordia scratched across a run in the 7th inning and then tied the game with 2-runs in the top of the 9th taking advantage of 2 walks and 3 wild pitches to tie the game at 7 without a base hit.
Oregon Tech’s Alex Reynolds was hit by a pitch to begin the bottom of the 9th and was then sacrificed over to 2nd base by Kevin Shulemson. After Tyson Dahl struck out, Tommy Wood, playing the last game of his collegiate career, hit a 2-out single and singled down the left field line to score Reynolds with the game winner.
Oregon Tech’s Chase Meister went the distance on the hill pitching all 9 innings to improve to 1-3 on the season.
