Schelb third in Oregon relays, nine Owls finish in top-10 at Pacific Invite

Eugene, Ore. – Six Oregon Tech athletes competed Friday at the University of Oregon relays, with Sarah Schelb coming away with the team’s top finish.  The rest of the Oregon Tech track team was in Forest Grove, Oregon competing at the Pacific University Invitational.

 

Schelb, already having qualified for the NAIA national championships, placed third in the javelin with a toss of 145-11.  Schelb outdistanced NCAA Division I throwers from Oregon State, Oregon and University of Portland.

 

Tech senior hurdler, Nikki Smith, was 12th in the 100-meter hurdles with a time of 15:03 seconds. 

 

Bryant Sentman, another NAIA national qualifier in the decathlon, high jump and javelin events, placed fourth in the high jump at 6-6.75 and was eighth in the javelin with a toss of 197-2.

 

Forest Grove, Ore. – Rachel Novak, Statia Smith, Amanda McMillan and Lori Carter came away with the Owls’ top-finish, placing third in the women’s 4X800 relay.  The team finished with a time of 9:37.06.  Emily Nehring had a fourth and fifth place finish for the Tech women, going 17-6 in the long jump and 12.82 seconds in the 100 meter sprint event.  Kaila Ash went 33-8 in the triple jump and good for a fifth place finish, while Jessie Robertson was seventh in the hammer with a throw of 122-10.

 

Three Owls finished sixth on the men’s side, including a 21-8.75 mark in the long jump from Derek Larman, a 42-7 foot jump from Jordan Brewster in the triple jump and Trevor Lund’s 191-2 toss in the javelin.

 

Both Rey Chavolla finished seventh in both the 100 dash (11.15 seconds) and 200 dash (22.26), while Kyle Gomez was seventh in the 400 coming in at a 51.78 timing.
